A Money-banii Interview With Balkan Pharmaceuticals’ Specialists

The Romanian investment – Balkan Pharmaceuticals company, launched a medication manufacturing facility in Singera, with a capacity of over 7 million packages per year.

“Investors were attracted by the location: at the intersection of the European Union and the CIS market. So Moldova is a strategic location. At the moment of the investment, taxes were attractive, as well as the fact that the wages claimed by professionals in Moldova are lower compared to the European Union. So there was a conjuncture of factors that convinced the investor to choose Moldova “- declared Vasile Cazacu, general manager of Balkan Pharmaceuticals.

The factory has an area of 10 000 m2 and was built according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) quality standards. The investments in this project constituted up to this stage 30 million euros. The factory has about 200 employees.

“We started investing a lot in the employees, especially in young employees. In Moldova, there is not much opportunity to gain enough experience. When talking about employers looking for employees up to 35 years of age, 20 years of work experience – things are virtually impossible. That’s why we invest in the employees who want “- the head of Balkan Pharmaceuticals, Georgel Bacinschi.

“I worked in a hospital, and then I got a job at this company. For me it was a huge thing in my professional career, but also in my personal life – the extra income is quite obvious”, said superior microbiologist Vasily Breylyanu.

“The plant is well equipped with high-performance equipment that enables us to perform analyzes at a very high and appropriate level” – the head of the Microbiology Laboratory, Nicolae Paladi.

Balkan Pharmaceuticals is a leader in the Moldovan market, with more than 200 brand names of medicines: anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, hormonal, rehabilitation preparations, etc. At present, a second block is being built at Singera, where antibiotic drugs will be produced. The initial investment is 5 million euros.

“The investment is not completed at the moment. The investment continues. The next significant investment will be the construction and commissioning of a new production hall for antimicrobial preparations, especially antibiotics. At the same time, the capital’s reconstruction of the old plant (the factory in Chisinau) is being carried out in order to adjust it to the current standards, “Vasile Cazacu added.

There are over 4500 Moldovan-Romanian enterprises in Moldova with a cumulative turnover of 1.4 billion euros.
